Free Columbia offers classes in handmade ‘stitchdown’ shoe construction. Each student makes a pair of shoes for themselves, starting by measuring their own feet and concluding by lacing up their shoes. Of course there is a great deal of work between these two stages in the process! We learn the stitch down method and work with leather. All steps except grinding are done by hand, including the sewing.

At Free Columbia there are no set tuitions or materials fees. Considering the expenses for the Free Columbia Shoemaking Course with Nathaniel Williams we need $400 per participant. A contribution somewhere between $0-800 per person is suggested for the entire course.
